The Library is open until 9PM on weekdays

Wow, I just this evening learned that the Darien Library, which incidentally is ranked as one of the top 10 public libraries in the country for its size, according to Hennen’s American Public Library Rating index, is open until NINE PM Mondays through Thursdays. Maybe this isn’t really surprising to some of you, but to me it IS — I’ve always assumed that, like most other businesses, if you want to get to the library you have to find time to squeeze it in before 5 or 6pm … … And now it turns out that you could almost plan to go there after dinner, maybe even as an event: go for dessert at Gofer Ice Cream and then to the Library to read bedtime stories! Or go for dessert in town and pick up a DVD — they rent them there. Or skip dessert and go straight to the library for a little peace and quiet time after a long, loud, busy day ….

Anyway, I thought it was really good to know. Their hours, specifically, are:

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Regardless of whether or not you actually go into the Library, it’s definitely worth checking out their website: there are a variety of blogs and other fun and informational activities you can do there. They actually have a live Webcam of the new library building site, so you can watch how that progresses!
