Make it a point to grab the kids and swing by the NEW Darien Rowayton Bank building downtown on Saturday, August 23rd from 12:30 to 3:30 for an afternoon of food and fun that will DEFINITELY drown out any depression you may feel about summer’s end!
The festivites include food (burgers, dogs, chips, soda, juice and Smoothies courtesy of Robeks Juice of Darien), fire truck tours, live music by “The Bob Riccio Group” featuring Tony Reno, face painting by Joby the Clown, and a silent auction that includes items such as:
…. A Ride to School on the Fire Truck (!), A BMW Mountain Bike, Dinner for 2 at Rowayton Seafood, a Breitling USA watch, 1 month of free Martial Arts lessons from Dynamic Martial Arts, a basket of assorted wines from White Bridge Wines, Gift Certificates Galore to places including Frederic & Company, Panera Bread, Van Zant Carpet & Linoleum, Robeks Juice, Darien Golf Center, Darien Ice Rink, Koenig Art Emporium and more!
Plus, all of the proceeds go toward supporting our local heroes at the Darien Fire Department (check out their website!!)
… so you can snarf down that extra cheeseburger with a little less guilt, with the knowledge that: a) you are making an important contribution to the safety of our community by doing so, and b) bathing suit season is almost OVER!!!
(For additional questions or to make a donation to the silent auction, please contact Melissa at Darien Rowayton Bank: 203-669-4135)
Psst …. If you’re looking for other fun things to do with the family and/or kids in the greater Fairfield County area this fall, make sure to check out our friends at www.FairfieldCountyChild.com.

One of my goals for this website is to connect Darien’s small businesses and individuals providing services of value to the community with the people in our community who need them.
They’re the “people in your neighborhood” with odd or not-easily-classified skills and services, and a listing in the Yellow Pages just wouldn’t do what they do justice. OR they’re the people with such a unique and/or desirable set of skills who only people ‘in the know’ know about — and if you don’t know the people ‘in the know’ or which ‘in the know’ people to ask, you’ll never find out about them.
I’ll call them “Neighborpreneurs,” and now you know you can just come to this website and find them.
WW Homes is a perfect example of the kind of niche business you want and need to know about, run by longtime Darien resident Wendy Ward, who also grew up in town and really knows the area.
Her specialty: dealing with whatever you don’t have the time or skill or vision or resources or knowledge to deal with yourself when it comes to improving your home…..

Hi again, it’s Jan … and I’ve been shopping!
It’s almost August and the the end of summer may be nearing but you can keep it going in your home all year long. Believe it or not, everything in the picture on the left is a candle! They range in price from about $8.00 to about $20, and believe me when I say the photos do not do them justice.

The picture on the right shows two other sea-themed things, just right for your table top: square plates for salad or dessert. Priced at $28. And perhaps my favorite find are the starfish salt and pepper shakers for $12. You can find these, and other summer-themed items through the end of summer, at Couleur Provence at 863 Post Road.
GOOD GOODS at 859 Post Rd is well-known for their great fabric collection, but don’t overlook them when you are looking for accessories or a perfect hostess gift for a summer house in Nantucket…

These throw pillows, all with a sea theme are absolutely gorgeous. They will really make a “splash” on a bed or sofa! Each one is $210.00
