Feeling neighborly?

| July 15, 2008 | 0 Comments

My little neighborhood is one of the things I love best about living in Noroton Heights (aside from the close proximity to beaches, tons of fun parks for the kids and walking distance to a little shopping center that offers everything from a coffee cafe to yoga classes and movie rentals – but I digress)

There are always people out in their yards; walking their dogs or their children; washing their cars … and on my street, the annual Block Party is a major event for which planning begins the day after the previous year’s party.   The problem is, even if you’re fortunate enough to live on a street that maintains an email distribution list (like mine), there are so many faces to put with names to put with houses that it takes a really long time to get it all straight.   And THEN there are all of the really nice people who you meet in passing while on your walks on neighboring streets whose names go immediately out of your head once you get home and caught back up into the swing of daily life …

So thankfully, and probably not surprisingly, there is a handy little online resource to help us put names with houses — which, to me, is a really good start: I’m usually good from there, just need the little boost …

I also offer this as a friendly little “heads up” to those of us who feel like blinds aren’t really necessary in second-floor bathrooms or that there is anonominity in having your yard enclosed by a tall row of hedges: if your windows are open, your voices WILL carry …. and apparently now, whether you’ve introduced yourselves to us or not, we will ALL know who you are and where you live! :-)
