Patricia Burke, Sr. Development Officer, of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross has provided the Darien Sport Shop with some informational materials and collection cans for cash/check donations. The Darien Sport Shop plans to have a table set up in their entryway this Saturday and next, January 23 and 30 from 10-5 that will be staffed by volunteers to collect monetary donations to help Haiti via the Red Cross. The collection cans will also be in the store’s first floor Ladies’ Department throughout the two weeks.  Ms. Burke encouraged the Darien Sport Shop to solicit the donations, saying, “It will provide an easy local venue for people to visit to show they care, while allowing the staff at the Red Cross offices to efficiently handle coordinating the other aspects of the relief efforts.”

The American Red Cross and our Red Cross partners will be providing a wide range of help and support, including water, food, field hospitals, emotional support, sanitation facilities and helping restore links between families. At present, there are thousands of Red Cross workers, representing nearly 30 countries, on the ground assisting with the relief efforts in the affected region. For more information about the Haiti relief efforts and the American Red Cross or to make a donation you can visit www.redcross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS. Donors can make their gift to the American Red Cross International Response Fund or Haiti Relief and Development.
