I had lots of fun with my little guy yesterday at Cherry Lawn Park; there were a ton of families out, picnicking and playing tennis and soccer and enjoying the beautiful weather … it is truly SUCH a great park. However, and it might just be the time of year and positioning of the sun at noon, but I thought I would pass along my observation that, while the “big kids” playground is nicely shaded by lots of trees, the toddler playground is kind of like a beach.
The perimeter of it is fairly shaded, and you can park your stroller next to nice shaded benches or at the gazebo in the corner, but the entire play area where the playstructures, sand toys and swings are, is completely exposed to the sun. So I was grateful that I had, by chance, brought the bag that contained sunblock. And next time I’ll probably also bring a hat to cover my little guy’s head.
Anyone else want to comment on the toddler playground and sun? Is it a seasonal thing, or …?
All I’m going to say is that the “official” name for the Thursday before the Sidewalk Sales is “Preview Day,” occurring inside all of the participating sidewalk sale stores … but you know what they say about the Early Bird. That’s this Thursday, July 10th.
In fact, you might plan to swing by Noroton Heights tomorrow, where Edward Tunick has been starting HIS sidewalk sales — officially — on Preview Day for 32 years. On the sidewalk in front of his store you’ll find everything from brand name men’s suits to ribbon belts, Eliza B flip flops for kids and official Darien hats and tees, all marked down considerably for the sales.
The Darien Sidewalk Sales take place outdoors on Friday, July 11th and Saturday July 12th from 9am to 5pm.
