This just in from Pear Tree Point, thanks to the wonder of mobile blogging technology: the water is closed today.
Apparently, whenever there is more than an inch of rainfall, the Health commission automatically closes the water due to high bacterial levels. Bummer, because this is the first time all summer I’ve managed to get down here! The sign says water will be open tomorrow morning at 9am.
It might also be worth noting (although probably not news to most of you who have managed to get to the beach at least once this summer) that there is an ongoing red jellyfish warning at all the beaches … anyone have any good jellyfish horror stories to share? Feel free to post them!
Since we’re in full summer swing it seems like a good time to go ahead and see which beach Darienites think is best… While you’re at it, feel free to post some inside scoop on why you like one over the other. Better snack bar? Better swimming? More to do? Spill it!
note: some of you might see a huge blank space below the poll question: it’s an annoying technical glitch that only affects certain browsers — I’m working on it — in the meantime, just scroll down to the bottom of the page and you’ll see all the rest of the stuff!
Thanks to the Youth Commission, every Weds night this June can be Picnic Night on the beach!
Whether you pack a picnic dinner or buy a burger at “Uncle’s By the Shore,” grab a blanket, the beach chairs and come enjoy the evening at one of Darien’s finest parks: Weed Beach! Click To Read More of This Post
