It’s an ‘American Girl‘ Saturday, September 6, at the Darien Sport Shop this weekend!  How cute it this: your girlies get to dress up like their favorite American Girl doll and go get their photo taken, with their doll(s) by a professional!  Plus, there will be live American Girl models, with dolls, on-hand to pose with your daughter (or son) in the free photo if you like, as well as refreshments and a prize drawing for a Ruthie doll.  They can also sign up to be a model in the November American Girl fashion show being held at the Darien Community Center.  Proceeds from the day will be donated to CancerCare of Connecticut and Playground On The Sound, so everyone wins!  The fun begins at 11am and ends at 3pm, so drop by anytime!

Hi again, it’s Jan … and I’ve been shopping!

First stop: Darien Sport Shop. Here is a great chance to wear something really beautiful and do something really good. The daughter of former Darien resident Tess van Munching is selling these gorgeous bracelets made by Samburu women in Kenya.

Each bracelet, made by hand, takes an entire day to make, and proceeds go to support the purchase of school books and desks in Samburu villages.  They cost only $30.00, and you can buy them at The Sport Shop!

Next stop: Niche, in Goodwives Shopping Center. I know that these shell plates and spoons are meant for caviar BUT I think I can find another use or two for them.

The plate is $35.00 and the spoons are $9.00 each. (Now if i could just afford the caviar….!)

Also at NICHE:  add a box of beautiful scented powder to this pretty puff and take yourself back to the Joan Crawford glamour days of the 30’s!  This is such a fun gift idea! The puffs are $25.

Big sigh: it’s almost time for back-to-school, where our children will acquire so many text books and folders and notebooks that their backpacks become essentially the same size as their bodies.

It always makes my heart hurt when I see anyone from little grade school munchkins, tromping along with their backpacks mounted on their backs and hanging down to their ankles, to high-schoolers bent into a practically vertical sideways slump in order to balance the gigantic load over their opposite shoulder.  I can’t help but giggle a little bit, because they’re so darn CUTE, but then I feel really bad about it and sorry for their misery.
