Well, Wednesday November 26th is already an early dismissal day in Darien Public School, but will we have school at all? It seemed hard to believe as we were walking around in 50 degree weather today, but some school districts to our north have already cancelled school tomorrow. So how do you know if school is cancelled in Darien? Here’s the 411:
- If you have a child in the Darien Public School system and your contact information is up to date in Aspen, the School Messenger service will contact you with any weather-related or other announcements. (To confirm that you are registered, text “help” to School Messenger at 68453 and follow the instructions.)
- School cancellation/delay decisions are usually made between 5:30 and 6:00 am. In addition to School Messenger, public schools will generally also notify parents via their individual school newsletters (pre-schools have their own notification procedures but generally follow the public schools).
- Often the first place to find out about cancellations/delays is Twitter. The #Darien hastag is a good place to check, but (in addition to @AllAboutDarien), we recommend @DarienTimes, @News12CT, and our favorite collegian meteorologist, @SWCTweather.
Best of luck to everyone out there–may the thaw be with you!
