Life in Darien got a whole lot sweeter this summer with the soft opening of Chocolate Works in Goodwives Plaza (right next to Wine Port). We first heard about this magic place from our kids, of course, who had been hearing from their friends about a hot new birthday party joint in town. We finally got a chance to investigate for ourselves over Labor Day.
First, Chocolate Works is a top notch sweet shop: they have all kinds of candy to be bought in bulk, from gummy bears to custom-colored M & Ms and more. They also have amazing chocolates including truffles, chocolate covered Oreos and graham crackers (that they make right in the shop). They do custom chocolate designs, including chocolate pizzas–a pretzel base covered in chocolate–that can be decorated in school colors, for example (take note, parents who are looking for care package ideas for kids away at school).
What won my kids over, however, was the chocolate fountain, which is the source of the chocolate syringe:
I mean, really.
In case you are more sensible, you can enjoy the chocolate fountain in a more reasonable way with fresh dipped marshmallows, for a fun new twist on the classic s’more:
Chocolate Works has all kinds of fun planned for this fall, including workshops with local celebrity and chef Hunter Zampa (who won “Chopped” at age 12).
And that brings us back to the birthdays. There’s a fabulous party space in the back of the store, and a terrific enthusiastic staff that is ready to lead kids through chocolate decorating and game playing. (They do parties for grown ups in the evening, too–this is exactly the kind of trick or treating we can’t wait to do.)
Look for info about an official grand opening celebration coming in October!
